Kitchen Assistant

You will be reporting to the Food Service Director by assisting him/her in the daily preparation and service of each meal. Other tasks you will be responsible for, but not exclusively are:

  • Work with Cooks in preparing meals
  • Working with Mission Teams to serve meals
  • Making sure the dishes are cleaned and stored properly
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the Dining Hall and Dish Pit
  • Adhering to the ServSafe’ policies of Kitchen Management
  • Managing the kitchen crew (Volunteers and Kitchies)
  • Staffing the baking elective and run Shakes and Thanks activity with kitchen staff
  • Inform Food Service Director of inventory that needs ordering for food electives and activities
  • Oversee the set-up, facilitation, and clean-up of snack time (whether there is a volunteer group or not)

Cooks

You will be reporting to the Food Service Director and preparing nutritious food in an institutional setting utilizing basic and advanced cooking techniques, plating food for 75+ guests, while also being creative in planning and preparing products to limit waste.

  • Prepare awesome meals for our guests (retreat and camp)
  • Adjust food to accommodate guests with allergies
  • Collaborate with Food Service Manager to prepare menus and meals
  • Measure and assemble ingredients for menu items
  • Ensure good food quality and presentation
  • Maintain food inventories
  • Properly store food items at appropriate temperature
  • Rotate stock item as per established procedures

Ensure cleanliness of equipment, utensils and kitchen area at the end of your shift

Kitchies

You will be in charge of setting and keeping the environment of the Dining Hall. You are serving guests and campers in a family style setting. Other tasks you will be responsible for, but not exclusively are:

  • Deliver meals to the tables with a friendly smile
  • Clean the Dining Hall area
  • Ensure that meals go out on time and in an organized manner
  • Set up and break down snack
  • Host “Shakes and Thanks” during the activity period by making milkshakes for campers
  • Organize and facilitate the baking elective in which you teach campers the fundamentals of baking
